For science lesson plan

Primary 6

Topic: Pollution – Air pollution

The Set up

Unit goal:

To understand how an increase level of carbon dioxide in the air affect the temperature of the atmosphere.

Learning objective:

At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to:

i) Distinguish the affect of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.

ii) Conduct an experiment – ‘Carbon Dioxide test’

iii) Create a line graph showing the result from the ‘Carbon Dioxide test’

experiment using a graph paper or appropriate computer

software/program (Microsoft Excel).

Materials for the lesson:

i) to prove that an increase level of carbon dioxide in the air affect the temperature of the atmosphere, we use beakers, thermometers, table lamp, tablets of Alka-seltzer or Panadol Soluble and graph paper (option).;

ii) to prove there are tiny particles on the air, we use Cardboard or stiff paper from a file folder, strings and transparent tape or sticky labels.

The Lesson

The Hook:

By using PowerPoint as one of the learning tool to stimulate the pupil’s interest rather than just using the textbook itself. The PowerPoint will include short video on pollution. Then, pupils will review on air and the types of pollution briefly. The topic focuses during this lesson are the affect of carbon dioxide to the air and particles that can be found in the air. In order to attract the pupil’s interest in learning, the teacher will give hands-on-experiments to be done during the lesson.

Exploration and Practice:

First, the teacher let the pupils investigate whether carbon dioxide in the air can affect the temperature of the atmosphere. Follow by experiment to show that an increase level of carbon dioxide in the air affect the temperature of the atmospheres. Pupils can ask questions if they are doubt. The teacher will then explain again until the pupils understand. This is to make sure that the lesson objective will be achieved. Teacher also gives extension experiment to do at home that air moving and containing with other tiny particles. Teacher will also give an exercise to the pupil’s to make sure they really understand the lesson for the day that related to the air pollution.

Summary:
